03 · By level
Support adapted to every stage
In Vevey as in Lausanne, the content follows the Vaud curriculum (PER) and adjusts to your child’s actual level, defined at the assessment.
Primary (1P to 6P)
Fluent reading, everyday spelling, conjugation of basic tenses, first written productions. French is the only subject assessed by ECR from 4P, then in 6P: the canton makes it the foundation of everything else. Laborious reading in 4P is paid for in every subject.
8P, the orientation year
Comprehension of longer texts, sentence grammar, written argumentation. The 8P ECR weighs 30% of the annual French average, which counts for VP/VG orientation. Structured writing becomes a criterion, not just spelling.
Lower secondary (Years 9 to 11)
Text analysis, essay writing, oral expression, literature. In the VG, French is one of the three levelled subjects; in the VP, reading full works and long-form writing prepare for gymnasium. We prepare the end-of-Year-11 exams and level changes.
Gymnasium
Essay, literary commentary, literary history, methodology of long-form writing. French is a core subject at the maturity: it is often the mark that tips an average. We work on method as much as culture.

Which levels do you offer French lessons for?

Do you prepare students for French exams?

Yes, twice over. It is part of the restricted group (French, maths, German) whose total must reach 15 points, and the 8P ECR weighs 30% of its annual average. Structured writing is assessed there, not just spelling.
My child reads little and writes poorly: can it be caught up in secondary?
Yes, provided you work on method and not only rules. We start again from text comprehension and paragraph building, then automate through regular practice, up to the essay.
Do you prepare the French ECR in 4P and 6P?
Yes. These first ECR are above all a discovery of the format; we familiarise the child with the instructions and the time limit, without pressure, so the test reflects their true level.
