01 · The stakes

Why the year 8 ECR changes everything

It is not a test like any other: it is a test that steers your child’s schooling.

01

It weighs on streaming

The result of the year 8 ECR counts towards streaming into the pre-gymnasial (VP) or general (VG) track. A great deal is decided there.

02

It covers several years

The test assesses knowledge built up over a long time. That cannot be caught up in a week: far better to start early.

03

It can be prepared, like any exam

Format, time management, question types: what is trained is mastered. Test day should hold no surprises.

02 · How to prepare

Two complementary phases of preparation

The base is built all year long. The intensive course, before the test, puts everything in place. The initial assessment points the way, without pressure.

The base · all year round

The groundwork, every week

This is the foundation: regular work on the curriculum, in supervised study or private lessons. Targeted exercises, working method, and a report after every session to follow progress throughout the year.

The boost · before the test

The intensive preparation course

During the holidays, a complete, concentrated preparation with its own dedicated method: a diagnostic test at the start, targeted training and mock exams in real conditions. It is the format that puts everything in place just before the exam.

See the course, step by step →

You follow everything, at every step

In both cases, regular educational reports show you where your child stands: what is already mastered, and what remains to be worked on before the exam. You never move forward blind.

03 · The intensive course

The intensive course, step by step

The most complete preparation, concentrated before the test. Here is precisely what happens, from the diagnostic test to the mock exams.

  1. 1

    Before the first session

    The diagnostic test

As soon as enrolment is confirmed, your child receives an online diagnostic test to complete before the preparation starts. It reveals precisely the notions already mastered, the skills still fragile and the gaps to treat as a priority. The preparation is thus personalised from the very first session.

  2. 2

    From the start

    Correcting the gaps

Before any full training, the teachers revisit the notions flagged by the diagnostic as not yet mastered. Each difficulty is explained in detail, then worked on with targeted exercises chosen according to the mistakes observed. Foundations are consolidated first.

  3. 3

    The heart of the preparation

    Progressive training

Once the foundations are solid, the difficulty rises at your child’s pace: targeted exercises, regular training, solving methods, organisational advice and working techniques. We build automatic reflexes, not cramming.

  4. 4

    As the exam approaches

    The mock exam

Your child sits a mock exam in conditions close to the official test. It evaluates what has been learned, flags the last weak points, observes time management and measures the level of preparation.

  5. 5

    After the mock exam

    The detailed correction

Each mock exam is corrected in depth, mistake by mistake, individually. The teachers go back over every difficulty encountered, then propose exercises specifically chosen to correct it. The goal: that your child understands their mistakes and knows how to avoid them on the day.

  6. 6

    Throughout

    Mental preparation

Success is not only about knowledge. Working methodology, organising revision, time management, self-confidence and stress management: your child is prepared to approach the test calmly, not just to know its content.

The promise

A test that counts.
Preparation that reassures.

When the method is clear and the work regular, your child approaches the ECR on familiar ground. Stress gives way to confidence.

Frequently asked questions: ecr preparation

What is the ECR in the canton of Vaud?

The ECR (Épreuves cantonales de référence) are cantonal reference tests taken in years 4, 6 and 8 HarmoS. They assess knowledge according to the Romandy curriculum (PER). The year 8 ECR counts towards streaming into the pre-gymnasial (VP) or general (VG) track.

When should ECR preparation start?

The earlier the better, as the test covers material learned over several years. The free initial educational assessment identifies fragile notions and lets preparation be spread out rather than concentrated into the final weeks.

How do students prepare for the ECR at SOS?

In two complementary ways. All year round, the base: supervised study or private lessons (one-to-one or semi-private), for regular work on the curriculum. Before the test, an intensive holiday course puts everything in place, with a diagnostic test and mock exams. Note: the diagnostic test and the mock exams are part of the intensive course, not of private lessons.

How much does ECR preparation cost?

The price depends on the formula chosen (one-to-one, semi-private or course). All our rates are listed in full transparency on our Pricing page.

Who runs the preparation?

Teachers who have proven themselves: each passed highly demanding teaching exams before giving their first lesson at SOS. You receive a report after every session.
