Frequently asked questions
How many points are needed for VP at the end of 8P?
46.5 points in the main group of ten subjects and 15 points in the restricted group of French, maths and German. Orientation has no borderline cases.
How does the ECR enter the 8P average?
In French, maths and German, the final annual average is 70 % of the decimal average of the year’s work and 30 % of the ECR mark. The result is then rounded to the nearest half-point.
What ECR mark is needed to get a 5?
It depends on the class average. With 4.9, at least 4.5 in the ECR is needed: 0.7 × 4.9 + 0.3 × 4.5 = 4.78, rounded to 5. The calculator shows it subject by subject until the ECR has been sat.
What is a borderline case?
A student whose total is just below the threshold, by at most 1 point per group in 8P and VG, at most 0.5 point in VP. The case is examined by the class council; it is never granted automatically.
Is the calculator’s result official?
No. It applies the cantonal rules published by the DGEO (2026 edition), but the decision rests with the school, which considers the whole record.
