Gymnase admission · year-long programme

Passing the entrance exam to the gymnase

A year-long programme, from September to the exams. Not just another tutoring course.

This preparation is for students who have finished compulsory school without the qualification giving direct access to the gymnase, and who wish to sit the entrance exam to join the École de Culture Générale, the École de Commerce or the Maturité track.

01 · Who and what for

Preparation for one very specific situation

Your child has finished compulsory school, but without the qualification that opens the gymnase doors directly? The entrance exam is the way in. We prepare them for it.

École de Culture Générale

The ECG, leading on to the fields of healthcare, social work, education or the arts.

École de Commerce

The business track, with its professional pathways and specialised maturité.

Maturité track

The gymnasial maturité, the gateway to universities and other higher education.

Not to be confused: this preparation is neither the ECR one nor the Year 11 one (which concern students still in compulsory school). This is a year-long programme dedicated to the gymnase entrance exam. See ECR preparation · See Year 11 preparation

02 · The year, phase by phase

A structured progression, from September to the exams

We don’t just revise: we cover the entire curriculum, phase after phase, to prepare for the exam in the best possible conditions.

  1. 1

    From September

Phase 1 · Building the foundations

During the first months, the teachers work methodically through every notion of the official curriculum. Each chapter is explained, understood, then consolidated with targeted exercises. The goal: before the end of the calendar year, the bulk of the required notions has been covered.

  2. 2

    From January

    Phase 2 · Consolidation

Once the curriculum is covered, the focus shifts to training: exercises, revision, mastery of methods and work on any remaining difficulties. Learned notions are turned into reflexes.

  3. 3

    Until the exams

    Phase 3 · Mock exams

A significant part of the preparation is devoted to mock exams, taken regularly in conditions close to the official exam. Each one is corrected in detail, mistakes are analysed with the teachers, and targeted exercises reinforce precisely what still needs it.

Mock exams, a tool for progress

At SOS, mock exams are not just for grading. Each paper is analysed with the student, each mistake becomes a targeted exercise: correcting is how you progress, paper after paper, right up to the big day.

The promise

An ambitious goal.
A whole year to reach it.

Gymnase admission cannot be prepared in a few weeks. From September to the exams, every session brings your child closer to their goal, watched over by a team that stays with them to the very end.

Continuous follow-up

Supported right up to exam day

The support does not stop at the session. Throughout the year, progress is tracked and difficulties identified, parents receive educational reports after the sessions, and the teachers adapt the work to each student’s development.

Joining mid-year

It is not too late after September

Joining us mid-year? We first analyse your child’s level: what is already acquired, what remains to be worked on, and the best strategy up to the exams. The support is then calibrated to the time remaining.

03 · Before the exams

The Easter holiday intensive course

A concentrated final stretch, just before the exams.

This course is designed for two profiles: students already following our year-long programme who want to reinforce what they have learned before the exams, and those who have worked on their own and want intensive revision to arrive feeling more confident.

  • Revise the essential notions
  • Work through targeted exercises
  • Sit additional mock exams
  • Receive detailed corrections
  • Arrive at the exams feeling calmer

04 · In what format

Regular lessons or a course, depending on the profile

Preparation runs through regular lessons, and intensifies during the holidays. The initial assessment points you to the right combination.

05 · Your questions

Frequently asked questions: gymnase admission

Who is the gymnase entrance exam preparation for?

Mainly for students who have finished compulsory school but do not hold the qualification giving direct access to the gymnase. It prepares them for the entrance exams to join the École de Culture Générale (ECG), the École de Commerce or the Maturité track.

How is this different from ECR or Year 11 exam preparation?

They are two distinct offers. The ECR and the Year 11 exams concern students still in compulsory school. Gymnase admission preparation is a year-long programme, from September to the entrance exams, for joining the ECG, the École de Commerce or the Maturité track through the exam route.

When does preparation start and how long does it last?

It generally starts in September and continues until the entrance exams. It is a support programme spanning several months: the first months build the foundations (most of the curriculum is covered before the end of the calendar year), followed by consolidation and mock exams.

Can students join the preparation after September?

Yes. For mid-year enrolments, we analyse your child’s level to evaluate the notions already acquired, those still to be worked on and the best strategy up to the exams. The support is adapted to the time remaining.

Do you offer an intensive course before the exams?

Yes, during the Easter holidays. It is designed both for students already following our year-long programme who want to reinforce what they have learned, and for those who have worked on their own and want intensive revision: revision of the essential notions, targeted exercises, additional mock exams and detailed corrections.

How is my child’s progress monitored?

Throughout the year, progress is tracked and difficulties identified. Parents receive educational reports after the sessions, and the teachers adapt the work to each student’s development, right up to exam day.

How much does the gymnase admission programme cost?

The programme spans several months and its price is provided in a personalised quote, after the initial assessment. Our other rates are listed on the Pricing page.
